How to Update Instructor Information

Update Instructor Information and Upload Course Syllabi to the LATTC World Wide Web Site

Instructors can follow these directions from home or campus computers.

How to login to the web site so you can update your information:

  1. Go to:  http://www.lattc.edu/pls/portal30/portal30.home
  2. Select LOGIN in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  3. User id enter DEC network id which is the first 6 letters of your last name and the first letter of your first name and the first letter of your middle name.  Example John Henry Smith = smithjh.
  4. Password enter the first 3 digits of your Social Security number plus the first three digits of your Employee number.  Example a faculty member with a  SS# of 111223333 and an Employee number of 654321 would have a password of 111654.
  5. Then click the LOGIN icon on your screen.
How to set or change your instructor information:
  1. Select the INSTRUCTOR BACKGROUND link on your web page to update your personal information.
  2. Click on the QUERY icon to bring up the current information on your page.
  3. Type in the new information you want.  You can delete old information by highlighting it and hitting the backspace key.
  4. Once you have entered all of the new information, click on the UPDATE icon.
  5. When the page is updated you will see the words UPDATED ONE RECORD on your screen.
  6. Return to the previous menu by clicking on the BACK button on your browser software.
How to upload a course syllabus for the FIRST TIME:
  1. Select the INSTRUCTOR SYLLABUS link on your web page after logging in to update your course syllabi.  You can use the DELETE to delete an old syllabus or the UPDATE to input a new one.
  2. Select the year and the course you want to update or delete.
  3. Click on the BROWSE button and then select your syllabus file from the floppy or the hard drive.
  4. Click on the INSERT button and you will get the response "Updated one record" when it has compled the process.
  5. Click on the RESET button and repeat the process until you have uploaded all of your syllabi, or you can go to a different process of deleting or updating a syllabus.
  6. TIP: if you accidentally hit the QUERY button for a class you selected on the year, semester and course that does not already have a syllabus on file, it will reset the year, semester, and class and make no changes.  This can be frustrating if you aren't sure what is taking place.  This is the computer's way of letting you know there is no file to update or delete.  In this case you need to reselect the year, semester and course, then hit the BROWSE button and proceed with the directions above.
How to UPDATE or DELETE a course syllabus:
  1. Select the INSTRUCTOR SYLLABUS link on your web page after logging in to update your course syllabi.  You can use the DELETE to delete an old syllabus or the UPDATE to replace a syllabus file that is already on the system.  It deletes the old file when the new one is entered so you do not need to delete it first.  If you do delete it first, then you will need to follow the directions above for inserting a syllabus for the first time.
  2. Select the year and the course you want to update or delete.
  3. Click on the QUERY icon on your screen.
  4. If you want to delete the file that exists, hit the DELETE icon on your web page.
  5. If you want to replace the file that exists, hit the BROWSE button, select the file you want to upload from your floppy or hard drive and then click on the UPDATE button.  It will tell you "One Record Updated" when it is done.
  6. Tip: you can upload a Word document, an Acrobat Document, or an HTML document (web page).  However, if you upload an html file, the graphics will not appear when the student views your document.  This is because only one file can exist in the database for your syllabus.
How to Log Out of the System:
  1. In order to log out, click on the return icon in the top center of your web page.
  2. That will take you to the original page, click on the LOGIN and then click on the LOGOUT, both located in the upper right hand corner of your web page.
